The Senate has approved an amendment to the health care legislation that will require insurance companies to offer free mammograms and other preventive services to women. The vote was 61 to 39 with three Republicans and two Independents voting in favor of the amendment. Republican Senator's voting in favor of the bill were Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and David Vitter. Democrat's Russ Feingold and Ben Nelson opposed the bill, big disappointment and surprise with Feingold.
This is a great amendment that will provide women with preventive care and will ultimately reduce health care costs in the long run. The amendment was proposed by Maryland Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski, a great champion and advocate for women.
