A Look at 2013 in New York City politics

Michael Bloomberg has not even been sworn in for a third term yet. Bill de Blasio has yet to officially assume the title of Public Advocate and John Liu is probably moving things into the Comptroller's office so one would think it's a wee bit too early to start talking about 2013? It's never too early. Bloomberg is going to have to leave office in 2013 and this will set off a scramble for the Mayor's office as well as other citywide election positions, not to mention Borough Presidencies. So let's take a look at 2013. After all NYC voter's go back to the polls to elect citywide officials in roughly 1400 days!

For the most prized office of all, Mayor, a look at potential candidates:

Adolfo Carrion- the former Bronx Borough President and Director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs Policy

John Catsimatidis- the Billionaire Manhattan grocer

Ruben Diaz Jr- the Bronx Borough President and former member of the Assembly

Bill de Blasio- the newly elected Public Advocate and former Brooklyn Councilman longtime Clinton advisor de Blasio will be a strong candidate

Marty Golden- the NY state Senator is being mentioned but its unlikely that he will run

Ray Kelly- former NYPD Commissioner

John Liu- Newly elected City Comptroller, former Queens Councilman, Liu will be a very strong contender

Marty Markowitz- Brooklyn Borough President

Eva Moskowitz- the former Manhattan Councilwoman wanted to be Manhattan Borough President in 2005 and would love to be Mayor, she has hinted at a future run for political office

Jerry Nadler- Manhattan Congressman would be a great candidate for Mayor but its unlikely that he will run

Christine Quinn- New York City Council Speaker, a Bloomberg ally who supported extending term limits keep King Mike in office, she will not get my support

Scott Stringer- Manhattan Borough President, Stringer also supported extending term limits, big disappointment, I use to like Stringer, I am sorry he went with Bloomberg on term limits

Bill Thompson- Thompson ran a great campaign and lost a narrower then expected race against Bloomberg, Thompson could be strong in 2013

Anthony Weiner- Ran in '05 losing the primary, passed on '09 race will most likely run in '13
