With a little over a year left in her term as Governor of Alaska, not only is Sarah Palin declining to run for a third term as Governor, she is abandoning Alaska all together.
The Governor and 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential nominee announced today that she will step down as Governor of Alaska at the end of the month transferring powers to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Palin cited spending more time with her family and the fact that she did not want to be a lame duck governor traveling the state on the taxpayers dime.
The price of oil is going up and that's not good for a politician in Alaska. A lot of Republican and Democrat's are looking at the race and Palin would have been vulnerable in her bid for a third term. Palin didn't want to risk losing a statewide race which would crush her Presidential ambitions. So, instead of serving out the remainder of her term, Palin is bailing and running for President. The Governor says she wants to spend time with the kids, my guess is she'll be spending a lot of time in Iowa, Florida, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Stay tuned.
